AI chat says no engine found or CLI not found?

KorvAI's AI chat needs at least one supported AI coding tool installed and signed in. The exact message is: "Needs one installed and signed in: Claude Code, or Codex/Gemini CLI/Qwen Code (these need Node.js 20 or newer)." Install Claude Code, or install Node.js 20+ and one of Codex, Gemini CLI or Qwen Code, then sign in.

If you specifically use Codex and it is not found, KorvAI shows: "Codex CLI was not found. Install it in Settings › AI and sign in with codex." Open Settings, go to the AI pane, install Codex and sign in there.

An AI tool says it is signed out?

Each AI coding tool manages its own sign-in. Use the embedded terminal to run that tool's sign-in command again, or reopen the first-run checklist (Help menu, "Show Setup Checklist," or Settings, General, "Show Setup Again") and use the Sign in button next to the tool.

If you are using a non-Claude engine, note that it edits files and runs commands in your video folder without asking first; KorvAI shows this as a persistent warning in chat while that engine is active.

Captions are not appearing?

Captions depend on a speech model that downloads in the background the first time you launch KorvAI. The base model is small, but a larger turbo model used for more accurate captions can take a while longer. If captions are missing on a fresh install, the model is most likely still downloading; captions can start working before the download finishes, so give it a few minutes and try again.

KorvAI is not finding updates?

KorvAI checks for updates once a day in the background. If the "Check for Updates…" menu item (Korvai menu) reports nothing to check, the build you are running may not have an update feed configured yet, in which case the menu item says so rather than failing silently. Downloaded updates are verified before they are installed.

The microphone is not recording?

KorvAI only requests microphone access when you try to record voiceover onto the timeline, with the system prompt "KorvAI records voiceover from your microphone onto the timeline." If recording does not start, check System Settings, Privacy & Security, Microphone, and make sure KorvAI is allowed. If you denied the prompt earlier, you will need to turn it on there manually since macOS will not ask again.

I am seeing export issues?

Most export problems show up in the pre-export check before you even export, with "Export Anyway," "Ask Claude to Fix" or "Cancel" as your options. Common findings and what they mean:

MessageWhat it means
"The timeline is empty."Nothing to export yet; add clips first.
"The file for {name} is missing; its clips export as black or silence."A source media file moved or was deleted.
"Black frames from {t} to {t}: no picture there."A gap in the video track.
"{name} does not fill the frame, so black bars show around it."The clip's aspect ratio does not match your export shape.
"{clip} at {t} is only {n} frames long (a flash frame?)."A clip shorter than three frames, likely accidental.
"Captions {clip} at {t} have no transcribed speech under them."A caption sits over silence and will show nothing.
"Title "{text}" at {t} starts outside the frame."A title's position is off-screen.
"The video has no sound."No audible audio anywhere in the project.

If you are exporting a very wide frame in H.264, you may see: "H.264 can't encode frames wider than N pixels on most Macs. Pick HEVC or ProRes for this size." Switch the codec to HEVC or ProRes to clear it.

Where do crash reports go?

Crash reporting is off by default and can be turned on in Settings, Privacy. When it is on, diagnostics save locally to ~/Library/Logs/Korvai/Crashes; nothing is sent anywhere automatically. After a crash, the next launch shows a bar with three options: "Show in Finder," "Copy Report" and "Dismiss," so you can grab the report yourself if you need to share it with us.

FAQ

Why does KorvAI say no AI engine was found?

KorvAI needs one AI coding tool installed and signed in: Claude Code, or Codex, Gemini CLI or Qwen Code, which need Node.js 20 or newer. Install one, sign in, and the warning clears.

Why are my captions not appearing?

KorvAI downloads a speech model in the background on first launch. If captions have not shown up yet, the model is probably still downloading; captions can start working before it finishes, but very fresh installs may need a short wait.

Why is KorvAI not checking for updates?

KorvAI checks for updates once a day through Sparkle. If a particular build has no update feed configured, the Check for Updates menu item says so directly instead of silently failing.

Where do KorvAI crash reports go?

Crash diagnostics save locally to ~/Library/Logs/Korvai/Crashes and are off by default in Settings, Privacy. Nothing is sent anywhere automatically. A bar on the next launch after a crash offers Show in Finder, Copy Report or Dismiss.
