Which AI coding tools does KorvAI support?

KorvAI chat-edits through an AI coding tool you install and sign in to yourself: Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or Qwen Code. You only need one. There is no separate KorvAI AI subscription; you use your own plan or API key with the tool of your choice.

ToolExtra requirementModels
Claude CodeNone beyond the CLI itselfIts own aliases and versions
CodexNode.js 20 or newerListed from your local Codex models cache
Gemini CLINode.js 20 or newerGemini 2.5 Pro, Gemini 2.5 Flash
Qwen CodeNode.js 20 or newerQwen3 Coder Plus, Qwen3 Coder Flash

What does each tool need?

Claude Code runs as its own CLI with no extra runtime requirement. Codex, Gemini CLI and Qwen Code are npm packages, so they need Node.js 20 or newer installed on your Mac before KorvAI can find and run them.

How do you connect a tool, step by step?

  1. Install the tool

Install Claude Code, or install Node.js 20 or newer and then install Codex, Gemini CLI or Qwen Code from your terminal.

  2. Open AI chat setup

Use the AI chat row in KorvAI's Get set up checklist, or open Settings, AI, which covers chat, video, voice and picture models and your keys.

  3. Sign in with the CLI's own login

KorvAI opens an embedded terminal and runs the tool's own sign-in command, so you authenticate with your own account the same way you would from a terminal.

  4. Choose a model and Thinking level

Pick the model for your engine and a Thinking level from the composer's Thinking menu, which controls how long the assistant thinks before acting.

  5. Start chatting

Once signed in, chat with the assistant in the composer. It edits your real timeline, and you can watch the usage meter as the conversation grows.

Where does KorvAI look for the CLI?

KorvAI searches your PATH for an absolute entry, plus a set of well-known install locations: a folder named after the command under your home directory, ~/.local/bin, ~/.npm-global/bin, /opt/homebrew/bin and /usr/local/bin. It then runs the tool with a version flag to confirm it meets the minimum version KorvAI needs. If your install lives somewhere else, make sure the command is on your shell's PATH before KorvAI will find it.

How do you choose a model and Thinking level?

Each engine lists its own models in the composer: Claude Code uses its own aliases and versions, Codex lists models from your local Codex models cache, Gemini CLI offers Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash, and Qwen Code offers Qwen3 Coder Plus and Qwen3 Coder Flash. Next to the model picker, a Thinking menu lets you set how long the assistant thinks before acting, with Default listed first; some engines do not expose any Thinking levels at all.

What is the usage meter?

KorvAI shows how full your conversation's context window is, mirroring the usage information the CLI itself reports. Watch it on long editing sessions so you know when it is worth starting a fresh conversation rather than running out of room mid-edit.

Why do I see a warning in chat?

If you connect Codex, Gemini CLI or Qwen Code instead of Claude Code, KorvAI shows a persistent warning in the chat panel: that assistant edits files and runs commands in your video folder without asking first. This is simply how those tools operate; KorvAI surfaces it so you know what to expect before you start chatting.

What do common errors mean?

  • "Needs one installed and signed in: Claude Code, or Codex/Gemini CLI/Qwen Code (these need Node.js 20 or newer)." KorvAI could not find any supported tool. Install one and make sure Node.js 20+ is present if it is not Claude Code.
  • "Codex CLI was not found. Install it in Settings > AI and sign in with codex." KorvAI looked for Codex and could not find a working copy. Install it and sign in from Settings, AI.
  • "Codex stopped without an answer." Codex returned without producing any text for that turn. Try the request again or rephrase it.
  • Pick one tool. Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or Qwen Code, you only need one connected.
  • Node.js 20+ for non-Claude tools. Codex, Gemini CLI and Qwen Code all need it.
  • Sign in with the CLI's own login. KorvAI never stores a separate copy of your credentials.
  • Watch the usage meter. It mirrors how full your context window is.
  • Non-Claude engines show a warning. That is expected; it reflects how those tools operate.

FAQ

Which AI coding tools work with KorvAI?

Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and Qwen Code. You only need one installed and signed in with your own account to chat-edit in KorvAI.

Do Codex, Gemini CLI and Qwen Code need anything extra?

Yes, they are npm packages and need Node.js 20 or newer installed on your Mac. Claude Code does not have that requirement.

How does KorvAI find my AI coding tool?

KorvAI looks on your PATH and in common install locations, such as a folder named after the tool under your home directory, ~/.local/bin, ~/.npm-global/bin, /opt/homebrew/bin and /usr/local/bin, then checks the tool's version.

Why does KorvAI show a warning for Codex, Gemini or Qwen?

Non-Claude engines show a persistent warning in chat because that assistant edits files and runs commands in your video folder without asking first. Claude Code does not show this warning.

What does the Codex CLI was not found error mean?

It means KorvAI could not find a working Codex CLI. Install it in Settings, AI and sign in with codex to fix it.
