What are the requirements to run KorvAI?

KorvAI is a native macOS app built specifically for Apple silicon. It is not available for Intel Macs. Here is the full picture at a glance:

RequirementWhat you need
MacApple silicon (M-series)
macOS versionmacOS 15 Sequoia or later
AI coding toolClaude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or Qwen Code, installed and signed in
Node.jsVersion 20 or newer, only needed for Codex, Gemini CLI or Qwen Code
Microphone accessOnly if you record voiceover onto the timeline
Disk spaceSpace for your project media plus the speech model (see below)

Which AI coding tool do I need?

KorvAI does not ship its own AI chat model. Instead it runs the AI coding tool you already have installed and signed in to, such as Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or Qwen Code. You need at least one, installed and signed in with your own account, before AI chat will work in the editor.

Claude Code is a standalone binary and does not need Node.js. Codex, Gemini CLI and Qwen Code are npm packages, so they need Node.js 20 or newer on your Mac to run at all.

How much disk space does KorvAI need?

Beyond your project media, KorvAI downloads a speech model in the background on first launch so captions and transcripts can work locally. The base model is around 150 MB, and a larger turbo model used for more accurate captions is around 1.6 GB. Altogether, the first run can download up to about 2.2 GB of models, and captions can start working before the larger download finishes.

What works offline and what needs the internet?

Once the speech model has downloaded, most of KorvAI's editing work runs entirely on your Mac and needs no connection at all:

  • Hand editing on the timeline
  • Transcription and transcript-based cuts
  • Captions
  • Export

Two parts of the workflow do need a connection. AI chat needs a connection to your chosen AI provider to send and receive messages, and stock footage search needs the internet to reach the stock providers.

What permissions does KorvAI ask for?

KorvAI only asks for microphone access, and only if you use it to record voiceover straight onto the timeline. It does not request camera, contacts or full-disk access.

  • Apple silicon only. KorvAI does not run on Intel Macs.
  • macOS 15 or later. That is the minimum supported version.
  • Bring your own AI tool. At least one of Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or Qwen Code, signed in.
  • About 2 GB for the speech model. Downloaded once in the background on first launch.
  • Most work is offline. Only AI chat and stock search need a connection.
